A call out for Beauty and the Geek contestants.....

Hey gang, i just got a call from the producers from the show "Beauty and Geek" asking the following: Not sure if you fit this criteria: The brief is male, 18-30, a passionate weather geek and maybe a little bit socially awkward. If you're interested, please let me know and i'll pass on you...

Re: Severe Thunderstorms - NSW/ACT - 29th to 30th Nov

Hey Meso, the first shot was a little different to the others - it was still fairly light outside, so i had to reduce the light somehow. I shut down the aperture to f22, ISO of 50, then only took 30 sec exposures at a time. I knew that a close one was immanent as i could see the cell getting closer ...

This the granite monument that took the direct hit, i went down to have a look the following day. I'd say that the water on the surface saved it an ugly death, but will always have the mark to prove it!!!!

Love it Greg, as always you've outdone yourself. Good to see you around again too  Hey Lily, we've had such a sloooooow start to the season so far, pretty much everywhere else has been having all the fun. i really don't think we'll ever know why lightning chooses it's path, even at the last 100m - i mean why split there? It's such an elaborate mystery.

Re: Greg's Photos, Reports and creative thoughts

Finally got some storm action, but only slim pickings though. I seriously need a weekend and storm outbreak to coincide for southern NSW. They seem to fall into weekdays.... sigh. Anyway, picked up this cg hitting Tinderry Mountain Range on Wed evening. By this stage the storm was moving away to my ...

Re: Wolf's Weather (and other shots)

Such an ominous shot WC! LOve the context of the jetty leading the eye in, just sets up a dooms-day feeling - would be great to see hanging on a wall!

Re: Greg's Photos, Reports and creative thoughts

It's been such a looooong time since i've been on here, pretty sad actually. Thank goodness the storm season has arrived, albeit everywhere else than here in Canberra! Been looking at all your reports from up here, good to see you guys in Vic have kicked things off already. Here are some images from...

Re: VIC Fronts with rain & storms then showers: 26/9/-01/10

And to add to that Karl, there's an A train line forming NW of Mildura in SA..... classic behaviour. There's a very large cell developing even further north of that.... have to see if one turns left.

Re: VIC Fronts with rain & storms then showers: 26/9/-01/10

That's the deepening surface low that i was referring to. You'll need it to get the direction sheer to push the downdraught areas away from the newly forming updraughts. Any SC in the improved environment will be long lived.

Re: VIC Fronts with rain & storms then showers: 26/9/-01/10

storms will start to move away from the steering flow once the surface trough moves further east and deepens further. This will increase backing winds necessary for directional sheer - i'd say we'd start to see evidence of left and right movers later this avo as things progress. Keep an eye out to t...

Re: VIC Fronts with rain & storms then showers: 26/9/-01/10

I can't remember a time when they've added detailed relating to the wind shear in a warning. All us weather nuts know about it of course, however it's good to see that the BOM are adding these details for the wider public.

Re: VIC Fronts with rain & storms then showers: 26/9/-01/10

I agree, only an entree'. If you look at the vis sat, the clean air further north will allow of far more heating. The timing is perfect for supercells to the north - the sheer profile is spot on. Expect some interesting features extending under some of these beasts. If i were chasing i'd hug the bac...
