Vic: Cold fronts, Gales, AFL Grand Final Sept 24-30

And the battle between Southern Ocean Cold fronts, an unrelenting inland heatwave, and Hawthorn & Freo rages on.... Could be decent rainfall on Wednesday night - widespread 10-20mm, perhaps more on the ranges? Grand final day is looking showery, 16c or so. I can't stand either the Hawks or Freo,...

Stratosphere, wish you were right... but if the lack of cloud explained the warmth the night temperatures should have below average, whereas they have been running a long way above average. http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/awap/temp/index.jsp?colour=colour&time=latest&step=0&map=minanom&per...

Re: Vic - Rain, Cut-off Lows: Sept 13-19

The lack of any cloud and rain over Central Australia is the issue. No change forecast for coming week or so: http://wxmaps.org/pix/temp7.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; So even though the AAO has been good (as reflected in Perth's wettest Sept in 40 years!), there has ...

Looks like GFS is on drugs again.... Not much rain predicted, so not sure what will pan out.

Some really good falls North of the Divide today. i.e 50mm+ at Redesdale.

Horsham did quite well with the band out West with 23mm since 6pm.

That line of storms out West is incredibly narrow on the radar but going bonkers according to the lightning tracker. I'm thinking squall line....

Re: Vic - Rain, Cut-off Lows: Sept 13-19

Some reasonable rainfall totals since 9am are coming through such as 20mm+ near Benalla.

Interesting to see some significant warming in the clear slot in the Mallee too. I wonder what that could do....

Re: Vic - Rain, Cut-off Lows: Sept 13-19

Really hoping there are some decent rainfall totals today and tomorrow since it looks a bit lean for the rest of the month.

Nice thick band of rain moving down from the NE from Southern NSW looks promising.

Re: Vic - Rain, Cut-off Lows: Sept 13-19

Fall of up to 16mm in the Mallee this morning which is awesome. Seems to taking its time to move South though.

Some crazy low maximum temps too - i.e. 7c at Charlton so far! Not good for the sheep...

Re: Vic - Rain, Cut-off Lows: Sept 13-19

Some handy falls around Adelaide so far today. i.e. 29mm at Rhynie.

Could be worth big $$$ to grain growers, especially after the past two weeks of hot and dry weather.

Vic - Rain, Cut-off Lows: Sept 13-19

Satellite pic is beginning to look decidedly awesome. Here's hoping we all get 30mm+ over the next week:

Re: VIC - Cold fronts and inland heat: Sept 5-12

Melb CBD AWS is beyond a joke today. Already got to 17.4c. Unfortunately the really cold air just missed Vic (the story of 2013), but Hobart will be lucky to get to double figures today.

As for the coming week, it looks like pretty widespread 20mm+ over much of the state. It will be welcome!

Re: VIC - Cold fronts and inland heat: Sept 5-12

It got to 33.1c in Mildura today. Along with wind gusts of 60km/h+ in the Mallee. Nasty crop burning weather.

On the other hand it looks like some handy rain coming up early next week, especially if GFS is to be believed.

Re: VIC - Cold fronts and inland heat: Sept 5-12

Looks like we'll be back to winter for a few days and even SWly winds on Wednesday-Thursday (where have they been for the past 3 months?).

As for next week, it could end up being very wet.

Re: VIC - Cold fronts and inland heat: Sept 5-12

After tomorrow's brief blast of inland heat, it looks like mostly below average temps for a week. Beyond that there are suggestions of a possible monster cut-off low, and/or big incursion of polar air in about 7 days time.

VIC - Cold fronts and inland heat: Sept 5-12

Time for a new thread. After the past week's heatwave, the Long Wave Trough is now in the region and throwing up several cold fronts. Looks like an epic battle between hot and cold this coming week and thus it could get stormy. Some forecast models are predicting >30mm over much of Southern Vic duri...

Re: VIC: Warmth, Showers & Thunderstorms - Aug 24 to Sept 1

If today's synoptic situation occurred in January, we'd be getting close to 45c IMO.

Anyway, a NW cloudband is on the satpic which is something we haven't seen for a while. Next week we'll be back in coats with what looks like a deep Southerly fetch to send us back into the depths of winter ;)

Re: VIC: Warmth, Showers & Thunderstorms - Aug 24 to Sept 1

Talking of stormy/humid weather, GFS is throwing up a very weird stationary inland Low over South Australia early next week with cold air in the mix. Mount Gellibrand obs this afternoon are completely bonkers. At 2pm it was 19.8c with DP of 19.6c. :o The closest recent September crazy DP I can think...

What's with the mid-afternoon dewpoints in the mid to high teens in Early September? Something has got to give later this week.

Looking a bit unstable in South Australia.
