has to also be a record for length of time without a "normal" thunderstorm...usually in december when my christmas lights go into a certain flashing sequence outside the window i think its lightning for a second as usually there really is in december. It was 2 years ago today (i think) we had that big supercell storm that started up in mildura then came down over melbourne, it got so dark it looked and felt like something from tornado alley!

BOM obs have them peaking at 49.7, though I'm sure 49.7 and 50 don't feel that different!

Currently on 11 degrees down here. Will be remarkable if we get to the forecast 43 for Cranbourne (32 degree difference). Slow starts usually hamper maximum temperatures, so we'll see.. I expect a sudden spike in temp at some stage

Some notable high minimum temps in Radelaide last night. 34c - uggh.

Might be the warmest minimum ever recorded for a Capital city in Australia. It's in the vicinity of Jan 10, 1939 and January 29, 2009.

Ideal cool start to the day here. I took the opportunity earlier to give the gardens & lawn a decent drink before leaving for work.

Adelaide already 40 in some parts.

Wait until that hot air up there mixes down here. The temperature down here will overtake Ferny Creek in a heartbeat.

Already 35c here :o And yet just 25c in the CBD and 23c at Avalon - probably won't be long until it mixes down and creates a sharp spike in temps in the lower lying areas.

44 seems like a tough ask after this very slow start?

It's one of those days where it will be a very late maximum, although down here further south I'm very interested to see what it can get to, considering it's still 26-ish

Warm and very pleasant at the moment, 29 degrees and hardly any wind.

Pity the pleasant-ness won't last. At least we're not getting day after day of 40+ unlike up north and west :?

Thick smoke has just enveloped Lancefield within the last hour. Could this be from the fires in NSW?

37.3c here now. It's also fairly windy. Had a gust to 42 km/h, so it's quite a moisture sapper.

Very light northeasterly winds here in Box Hill - definite smoke haze in the air.
