Missing out here 0.2mm's up to 9am and despite some spits and spats and damp
roads not enough to register anything in the gauge since 9am.

Good steady rain here now, verging on heavy. Won't get to post again for a couple of days but looking like a healthy total developing.

Looked like it was gonna rain all day here, but only spotty most the time. Some heavier stuff just to our east, so might do ok. Been in and out of fog with a max of 9C. Classic slow moving heavy bands rotating around the upper low, making for real hit and miss totals.

Whole system is weakening as the upper trough heads into southern Queensland and a deep low forms off the NSW coast. The cold pools is very chilly for them, and will deliver some significant snowfalls on the northern Tablelands of NSW down to around 1000m. Expecting the ranges into southern Queensland will also see some snow, and could be locally significant. Would not be surprised if it came to a few inches. Probably the best fall up there for a few years.

NSW always gets the best snowfalls and low level events. I'm convinced we're cursed down here :D

Most remarkable thing out of today is that a fog set in at 7.30pm and has got progressively thicker

Usually struggle here in northeasterlies, with just 4.4mm in the gauge. Foggy morning and should get the odd showery band through central as the day goes on. Focus is shifting north and east, with the best falls likely on the southern to central coasts of NSW.

Just a few drops of rain today. A chilly 11c atm. 17mm since Friday which is welcome. But many places around here much less.

Looks rather dry for the rest of July. Climate drivers have been as dead as can be since early June for us.

Hopefully August to October delivers.

I'm hearing reports of hail in parts of Melbourne and Sunbury this evening. A sting in the tail?

13.6mm this weekend. Showery afternoon here today, and quite heavy at times. Don’t think we had any hail here though. Might be a few more showers or drizzle later on or overnight. It really has been a hit and miss system - looks like at least another week before anything brews again.

Mid winter heatwave this week with Tasman Sea Easterly. Looks the opposite next week with a blast from the Southwest likely...

Thick fog up here in the Nongs with a gusty southeasterly flow. Unfortunately these events see us rainshadowed to the south and east so not really delivering here with just 1.4mm in the gauge. Got one brief heavy shower yesterday, which locally dropped up to 5mm around us, but was quite hit and miss.

Huge system for Gippsland (particularly the Macalister Catchment) with quite a few gauges headed for an event total over 100mm. Big falls also on the southern NSW coast into the Snowy's where it is shaping up as quite an epic snowstorm. Looks like about 40cm so far, with plenty more to come, falling down to around 1000m ATM. Could well be spots which crack a metre looking at the progs :o Vic resorts apart from Baw Baw missing out.... geez they are out of luck with the shutdown also closing Hotham and Falls ATM.

The very coldest air is headed into Queensland but they've missed the moisture. Could have been a memorable snow event for the northern Tablelands and Granite Belt, but just hasn't worked out for them. Hopefully there is the odd snow shower just to tick the snow event box :D

Hi from Hobart, other than a few showers Sat night and Sunday morning nothing to report. Still waiting and waiting for that elusive cold front. Today outside there is not a cloud or a any wind whatsoever.
Just another boring sunny day with plenty more ahead this week coming, sadly as winter slips away. Probably the least or no snow on Mt Wellington that I've seen in 15 years of living here.

Back home to find 14.5mm in the gauge from this event, so we're up to 33mm mtd - tracking about average.

Another foggy start, but cloud base has now lifted. The southeasterly is gusty and feels freezing TBH. Currently 6.5C. 0.4mm in the gauge from mizzle, but more like 10 to 20mm of fog drip under trees. Makes for a odd look around the garden with some areas sodden and water trickling, while others look like they've had only a misting.

Awesome snow event in NSW with around 50-100cm across the Snowy Mountain and substantial lying snow to around 900m. Hard to believe it almost mist the Vic resorts :o

Few quite mild for mid winter days coming up. Hopefully we can wrangle a proper front and cold outbreak soon.

Getting real boring. Anything good in the progs seems to fade where central Vic’s concerned.

Is this going to be another winter lag, where all the good stuff happens in August/early Sep?

It's the uppers that are causing this - the jet is constantly split over our area. Like a rock in a river. Notice how the cut off low did not dive south back into the westerlies. It's sitting in the area of little stearing, holding back the high over us. But yes annoying as we have got good ocean conditions on both sides of Australia for moisture and if it came together it would really go off. Hoping the SAM goes negative to drive powerful fronts with strong uppers to clear out the block in the Tasman area.

Cranbourne must be the only place without fog this morning. Looks like it'll be a nice day in fact.

To be honest was looking forward to one of those days where fog doesn't really clear the whole day, but not to be :D

Most likely. Some classic examples in the past. Such as 1966, 1979, 1984, 1992, 2010, etc.

Anyway, -1 degC this morning. A heavy frost. Not much in the way of rain for the rest of the month... Hopefully August delivers.
