Spoke to my brother near Nyora, near lang lang and he said they had large hail in the first storm.
What is the yellow spot amongst all the blue on BOM doppler radar near the end of Cranbourne word at 7.19 to 7.30pm. Looks sinister! Black core on 128km rain radar too.
Its not showing on radar but there is a big black cloud above me and its raining, its moved from the east and will cross the bay in half an hour, its slow.
Cold cored storms with an upper low, moving at snails pace. Mid level global temps plummeting, upper troughs ramping up again.
The sky outside right now is seriously scary. Towers just getting bigger due to the enormous cold air aloft, and to make it even better the airmass is laden with moisture.
As i said Saturday, this years first flood event for parts of Vic. Could even be a coastal feature. And being an upper feature will continue through the night.
Here is a series of 3 snaps showing what looks to be a hook echo but haven't got a clue if it is or not?
Taken quite close together 8:48 then 8:54 then 9:00 UTC ( about 6 minutes apart)
EDIT
Position of storm after 40 minutes from time of suspect hook echo, having suddenly changed direction and taking off east toward Warragul ..and on the move
Meso wrote:*Sigh* me, too. Finally a day with real potential and I'll be stuck in the office. It cant just co-operate and happen one day later? Hopefully some action after hours, but I'm not very confident, everything seems to start too far east this season. Should have moved to Albury for the summer, watched storm after storm roll through there on the radar this season.
I reckon there will be a good light show to the NE tomorrow night as there will still be good surface temps where Central and South will cool down to much with junky stuff around
got back from Apollo Bay today at about 12:30pm, been there since Friday, I was hoping for some storms and guess what, it has gone nuts at 'The Bay' tonight, grrrrr! Lightning flashes to the south which would be that complex of storms, looking to be approaching Colac area now.
Just watched the last couple hours of radar frames and that right mover. Just sat there for ages, then decided alright, thats it, im leaving. Lightning seemed to die as soon as it moved too. Wonder what the mechanics are behind something like that...
Could have gotten some structure shots of that cell if I went onto the roof (maybe some CG's to, saw CG's from it before it was dark), it's been lighting up in the distance off and on since it went dark.
The activity down SW sure isn't dieing down, very active cell
