Just in.. Interesting forecast for Central Dist for this evening

Forecast for the rest of Sunday

Cloudy. High (70%) chance of showers. Showers heavy at times near the coast and in the east early this evening. Winds southeasterly 25 to 35 km/h.

BOM must be thinking that blob east of Melb might edge bit closer to us.. We shall wait and see.

Been watching it edging closer all afternoon Johnno, it is decaying rapidly now at 7pm, but could still give many of us a very damp and drizzly night.

Haha, VFR only for us and the cloud layer at 1,100 feet meant we couldn't go up :( Bit hard to practise searching for stuff on the ground when you can't see the ground :) Got wet at zero feet ASL instead on the boats down at Docklands.

17.5 mm from that beautiful looking wraparound overnight. Some steady showers on and off at Docklands through much of the day.

EC has 7mm for here tomorrow. The other models have basically nothing.

It will be interesting to see if EC gets it right for a third time.

Horrible day here, almost as miserable as it gets for summer. Sodden ground with wet grass and water everywhere, just 13C for a max, thick low cloud for the entire day and spitting drizzle at times. I had to wear a thick jumper and have heating going all day. At least it allows the maximum moisture to soak in to the soil rather than drying out straight away like it usually seems to do these days.

We have fire restrictions starting on the same day. Unusual for my area to be declared as part of the last round. We are usually a couple of weeks earlier than Yarra Ranges, Gippsland etc.

Despite a significantly dry year here and record high average maximums almost everywhere during spring, things haven't really dried out all that much.

I think it has something to do with the wet April and June (which replenished soil moisture early) and the fact we haven't really had many 'spike' days with respect to heat and dry northerlies so far. It has been a lack of cool days that has led to the record temps more so than a lot of hot days. Those sort of conditions lead to higher soil moisture vs. total rainfall.

Nice wet morning out this way, heavy drizzle all the way into work. Has done wonders for the garden, although will pay the price for it later when the grass takes off.

Ended up with 30 mm exactly for these dates so a pretty good result for a westie! :)
