Nafets, keep checking with the BOM severe Thunderstorm warnings when they are issued.
Much more accurate in terms of real-time. The maps that Jake has posted are based on forecast only, not actuals.
think we will get enough heating in melbs for another round of storms?
light rain here atm, still very cloudy, breaks up a tiny bit to the nth west. Would love the sun to come out like yesterday to heat things up a bit for around 3pm.
Skies are getting ligher to the north and the temp has risen a bit here over the last hour. Those storms on that band to the NW are very nice, getting quite high. Bring on the clear air and lets see where it goes up.
We are in brilliant sunshine now. Still a fair amount of cloud cover but certainly clearing.
If we can get a good clear slot of 90mins+ then baby huey will arrive delivering a big bang!!
We've had sunny breaks here this morning and at one stage the sky was only about 3/8. Middle level Cu is developing very quickly though with any sort of heating. The sky looks as unstable as hell in the middle layers. Humidity is sky high today, 19.5C and DP around 17C. At those values, LI and CAPE are already getting up there. Add another couple of degrees on to that and it will absolutely go off.
There definitely seems to be a clear slot developing right through central VIC from the NE. Even on radar, showers that are approaching central from the NE are fizzling out. Leads me to believe that we are in the ideal location for thunderstorms this afternoon in the exact location where NE convergence and the upper low combine. Hoping so anyway, as long as we don't get wiped off the planet with cricket ball hail and tornadoes.
Had a good few hours of sunshine. Wind has dropped to almost calm. Dark to my north...looking very ominous...eerie right now. Could this be the mother of afternoons?
Bout time I came on here, special setup yesterday and also very special today N of the border. I am currently guiding Ben (sewaorthy) who has chased from Adelaide. He was in Deniliquin and is now heading NW towards Moulamein or whatever it is called. Roads and views very good, was cluttered before but likely sc moving s east of Balranald and probably more in the line as one moves N. Need to stay east of line, might have to track up to Hay eventually, but shear and general dynamics in that area are primed for rotating beasts. Right exit region, strong lift from the jet and impressive low level turning if ahead of the line. Big hail to 8cm is possible still despite water loading, clearer air will help a lot. GPATS currently going mad from those storms.
Yesterdays storm also had an overshooting top -14C colder than the Tropopause tempperature whilst it was over the SE suburbs. Very impressive stuff.
Me too AV. Sun out in Lilydale now. Nice clear slot seems to be developing between bands. Went for a run and saw some Mammatus. We can rival yesterday for sure.
