Cold Outbreak August 22 - 25

Post by Blackee »

Looking like a very cold burst arriving late Monday with the coldest air arriving Tuesday and snow levels dipping to 500m for a time. With decent moisture involved, the alps could see the best powder since early June by Wednesday. Flooding in the NE could be an issue with 20-30 mm falls around the place.
Macedonian, you could see your best fall of the season :D

Won't be had to bump the last snowfall off its #1 position, Blackee!
Anything over 0.5cm would do it. 😉

:o

WZ popped on my screen announced,

90% 20 to 40mm.

Who’s pulling these strings. I’m sure they never said that much yesterday..

The trigger has been pulled on Spring-like downpours. A couple thru Bendigo in the past 3 minutes.

Update - even had thunder at 3pm. As usual the rain is avoiding Bendigo Airport AWS.

Mild partly sunny 18.5C here today with NW'ly wind gusts at times. Latest EC and CMC predicting 20-25mm for us from this frontal band tonight. That will prolong our mud-fest for another week.

Radar looking more intensive than the rain actually falling over Melbourne presently though it is moderately heavy. Looks like bright banding occurring on the radar given the coldness of the atmosphere.

It’s been hammering down here tonight. Started as a line of thundery showers before morphing into the general rain band. Already up to 19mm and still counting.

A quick 6mm for us in southern Tasmania then a chilly mostly fine day. Max of 11C. Light smear of snow on the mountain down to about 1000m by this arvo.

TBH looks like a pretty lame cold outbreak, but given there’s been nothing significant all winter for the mainland will take it 🤗

8mm here all up in the boredom zone, didn't even make double figures again. No hail or thunder to report.

Sun currently out, I'd say that's it, all over.

Hi Snowfall, do you have a ytd rainfall total at all?
Are you above average for this time of the year?
I checked mine last night, 570mm so far. That is 300mm less than this time last year!

Hey Macedonian. Yes, YTD is 714mm for me, definitely running above average for the time of year. It was mostly bumped up earlier in the year with a very wet January, March, April.

We're actually running above this time last year. January to August 2021 was 648mm.
