SES flooded with calls as storm batters Vic

Victoria's State Emergency Service (SES) has received more than 100 calls for help as storms cause flash flooding north of Melbourne.
Gisborne and Alexandra were hit with heavy rain leaving homes and businesses inundated.
SES duty officer Tim Wiebusch said more than 100 calls had been received in the hour to 10:30pm (AEDT).
"We've seen flash flooding in quite significant proportions," he said.
"There's been over 72mm of rain around Gisborne and another 40-odd mils around Alexandra.
"There's been reports of ankle-deep water at Gisborne through houses, and at Alexandra we've got a report at the moment of three inches of water going through the commercial hotel and knee-deep water in some houses."
The SES has received more than 500 requests for assistance in the past 36 hours after a New Year's Eve storm unleashed damaging winds across Melbourne.
Friday's storm front is expected to move south to Melbourne's north and north-eastern fringe areas, hitting suburbs including Greensborough, Croydon and Ringwood.
"[It's] quite a change from last night's storm," Mr Wiebusch said.
"Last night's storm was largely a wind event, whereas tonight we're seeing places being inundated with heavy rainfall."
Earlier this evening the weather bureau issued severe thunderstorm warnings for large parts of Victoria and the south-western corner of New South Wales, saying people in affected areas should secure loose objects and stay indoors.
In Victoria the bureau says Melbourne, Mildura, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton, Seymour and Maryborough may be affected by damaging winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones.
In New South Wales the bureau has issued a warning for flash flooding, severe thunderstorms, damaging winds and heavy rainfall, with areas likely to be affected including Deniliquin, Hay, Wilcannia, Wentworth, Menindee and Balranald.
The storms are expected to last for several hours.
