Re: Inland Trough & Tropical Infeed - 17th - 21st Sept

0.6mm here today from some light rain this afternoon. Shame it’s not quite the system it was predicted to be earlier in the week. It’s going to be quite unpredictable over the weekend - some spots with nothing and some luckier.

0.4mm overnight. Currently 9c, dark, and drizzling here, though it's not getting picked up by the radar.

Re: Warm with a rainband: Sept 12-13

10mm here. On the lower end of expectations but better than nothing! GFS was closest in forecasting this event.

Lovely, mild sunny day now.

Re: Warm with a rainband: Sept 12-13

Currently slipping well south of us here. Only 0.8mm so far. The trough is moving slowly east, so the rain band may inch further north as the day goes on. The main focus for us will probably be this evening or overnight, assuming it holds together and we’re not rain shadowed!

Re: Warm with a rainband: Sept 12-13

The models are becoming more consistent. All are showing a solid rain band, but there is still some disagreement about its placement. It’s a fine line between 30mm and less than 10mm, with the band further north or south depending on the model. The latest run from EC has shifted it further north to ...

Re: Windy with a late change: September 2-7

1.4mm here today. Nice and calm outside after a wild night. Thankfully no damage that I have seen. Think we’ll be looking at a below average September for rain unfortunately - unless a miracle arrives late in the month. We know how quickly things can change though, so who knows what October will bri...

Re: Windy with a late change: September 2-7

Horrible wind here at the moment, gusting to 60 km/h. Really noticed on the weekend how everything is drying out so quickly. The strong winds and lack of rainfall over the past couple of weeks has sucked a lot of moisture from the ground. Only 0.4mm here this month so far and I’m not expecting much ...

Re: Windy with a late change: September 2-3

I am not minding the dryer weather right now. Massive tarps the only thing keeping the rain out of what's left of my home. It could be up to six months before we can move back. Much of our possessions still under rubble. There is not a single gum tree left standing that can now fall on our house. S...

Re: Windy with a late change: September 2-3

Had a brief shower this afternoon, but not enough to register in the gauge. 15.8c today. Wind has calmed down this evening. Fingers crossed something decent comes along later in the month because it’s looking pretty dry for a while ahead.

Re: Windy with a late change: September 2-3

I guess the wind speeds for the warning area are averaged across the area, while specific wind speeds are given for particular locations? For example, there may be some spots that are a little more sheltered than others. Even so, it can be confusing sometimes. The forecast for Gisborne South today i...

Re: Becoming warm and windy ahead of a late cool change: August 29-31

Just 1mm here yesterday evening. Very feeble front, which obviously struggled to tap any decent moisture. All up for August, it was fairly wet here for the most part - 20 days of recorded rain with one snow day and lots of wind to finish the month. In total, we had 78.6mm, which is above average. Th...

Re: Deep slow moving low with rain, snow, gales and storm surge: August 17-24

Sure was wild. I could see the squall cloud approaching here as it came in, but thankfully no damage as far as I can tell. The rain was quite heavy too, but fairly brief - 3mm in total here. Made it to 17.5c today, which is our warmest day since 7th May, and plummeted to 6.5c in about half an hour w...

Re: Deep slow moving low with rain, snow, gales and storm surge: August 17-24

4.6mm here today. Showers were quite heavy at times. That adds to the 9mm yesterday to make the event total 35mm and MTD 74mm. A bit of sunshine later in the week would be good, at least for the garden.

Re: Deep slow moving low with rain, snow, gales and storm surge: August 17-24

Great photos HB and everyone. Certainly has been a cold, wet (and snowy!) weekend. Not quite as drenching here as areas to my west and east, but we had 16mm in the last 24 hours and 28mm for the event. That takes us up to 67mm MTD, which is now just above average. YTD is 677mm.

Re: Deep slow moving low with rain, snow, gales and storm surge: August 17-24

Beautiful shot of mount macedon. 3mm here this morning and currently 4c (and a wind chill of -1c). It was 3.1c when I woke up this morning, with a bit of sleet falling. Otherwise, too warm for snow, but wasn't really on the cards anyway! Many other areas in the central ranges will be getting snow.

Heavy shower just came through here. The temp dropped from 9c to 4c in about 15mins with sleet at the back end. 5mm here since midnight.

Re: Deep slow moving low with rain, snow, gales and storm surge: August 17-24

2.4mm here overnight, makes 4.8mm for the past 24 hours. We're only on 43.6mm for the month, despite it raining most days. We've been getting rain shadowed this morning, which might be a bit of a feature for much of today here. I'm kind of torn on rainfall at the moment. I would love to at least re...

Re: Deep slow moving low with rain, snow, gales and storm surge: August 17-24

BTW check out your barometers. Pressures have gone below 990hPa. Doesn't happen too open. So far the lowest I've seen here is 988 :o The August record for Moorabbin which has a good long record is 985.8 hPa so not far of record low values. Noticed the pressure this morning as well. It's currently 9...

Re: Deep slow moving low with rain, snow, gales and storm surge: August 17-24

A heavy shower and 2mm here about an hour ago. There is a fair bit of activity on the radar in central areas at the moment, but it's a bit hit and miss.
