On the way to the Avalon Airshow. It had been raining the whole way from leaving Melbourne. Rather steady rain also. Judging by radar, looks by the time we reach Avalon, it will have cleared that area (well I'm hoping it would have). One of those elevated warm frontal features with the onset of the...

Facebook seems to be saying the rumbles and sounds mentioned over s larger area may have been airshow at Avalon. That migt make some sense. Sat on the couch hearing low rumblers wondering if the ground was about to shake. Back to the weather, a hot one, but cloud and a bit of humidity capping thing...

Yep... looking hot then a fairly dramatic front. Bit of wind with the front too... so not a good day to stand under those gums. Change looks reasonably promising for rain with EC and GFS both showing 5-10mm pretty widespread (e.g., has about 12mm up here in Ferny Creek). It does look like a decent c...

2mm more overnight so ended on 6mm. Local AWS - just 2km away got 9mm so a bit unlucky at our place. I think for the thread that we've had ~65mm and 5 thunder days. Not a bad effort. New thread time - Saturday's system is starting to look a bit better with EC showing falls up to 10mm now for Melbour...

4mm up here today. Pretty happy with that.. Want expecting much... EC and ACCESS both had less than 1mm and even the always optimistic GFS only had 5mm :P settles the dust added a thousand litres to the water tanks, and pushes our MTD to a reasonable 60mm (average is just past 70mm). Thick fog up he...

1.4mm back home. First band died on our door step, then a little cell dived south of us, then split the main band with bits passing north and south :( Maybe the next bit will dive south. Here's a photo as it came through the city - great visually - but mainly light/moderate rain. https://fbcdn-sphot...

Uncomfortable night up here... 23C for a minimum. Now waiting on the front.... Had enough of summer now. Couple of showery bands... First dropping a couple of mm's in spots. Interesting storms already firing out west with a big cell to the west of the Otways. Not sure what to expect here... Could be...

Got gusty cooler southeasterly winds here which I suspect is outflow from the storms that were to our east. These easterlies are then converging with the weak sw'ly change which is feeding the storms to the southwest. The convergence is really firing up... Interesting to watch how far east the SWly ...

Pretty severe storms around The Laverton Werribee area, As usual nothing near here and I dont expect anything again like yesterday. Today's storm will be different. We have a front approaching which should hold out the sea breeze for longer. Also more humid today. That said, the storms are pretty i...

About three spots up here from those cells. That's three more than I was expecting :P Hot one 33C which is about 38C at sea level. Was bricking and felt like 133C in the sun during the arvo :? Today more or less looks like a repeat. Bit of instability in the mid levels. Yesterday's storms seemed to ...

Any more word on storms this arvo.? ACCESS-C and EC are marginal - isolated showers in eastern areas. GFS pretty much says nope. Trough looks too far east for most of central areas with southerlies extending east. Is unstable and lots of humidity, but the southerly is going to cap convection. A cha...

Rain moving in from the north east Odd situation - models missed this even at short range, though morning update of ACCESS-C picked it up. Little upper low and surface trough moving southwest. ACCESS-C has locally heavy falls into central areas tonight. EC kinda had something but out with its timin...

Foggy with a bit of drizzle last night in Ferny Creek with 0.4mm in the gauge. Another humid one today (and indeed every day for the next week) with warm/hot conditions in the north/east and cooler in the south/west. Expecting the northeast to light up on the radar next few days with a trough hardly...

Sweaty 27.7C here today. Foggy start and sunny humid end. Thinking the southeasterly will act as a storm shield here, but happy to be proved wrong. Quite surprised to see intense storms, but not surprised there is convection. Scorcher out west with decent humidity providing the fuel. Progs continue ...

Foggy and humid night up here... Loving this humid weather ;) Not seeing much today. Hot uppers cap convection, while more easterly flow takes the edge of temperatures at the surface except out west which will be HOT. Scorching temperatures west of Vic yesterday. Low to mid 40s for most spots west o...

47.9mm for the event (though more humid days to come so might add some more). Lots of washouts around the hills as happens with decent falls. MTD is a healthy 50mm... Though our average is about 70mm so not quite there yet. Hopefully that's the end of our fire season here... Would be pretty unusual ...

Cats and dogs, Puppy's and kittens here Same here. Even a couple of rumbles and fog to add to the atmospherics :D Just passed 35mm for the event. If the train of showers keeps up over us we'll crack 50mm by 9am... though it is edging south and might slip under us. Spots just south of here must be a...

25 to 30mm across Ferny Creek, and still coming down nicely. Tanks are full and we are now half way to the monthly average after a month of almost zilch ;) Thinking we could well see about 50mm by am tomorrow. Developing again out west with some cells in the radar hole, so more to come. Places just ...
