I’m perfectly okay with the cool weather but this wind is driving me crazy. Looks like the next few days are going to be gusty too.

West/Central Gippsland is really rain-shadowing East Gippsland this year isn't? Not technically I guess but that's what it looks like

The wind is very annoying!! Only 6mm here over the weekend (mostly Friday evening), the wind just dries everything up... lovely and green just 20km up the freeway from here though.

Yep, behaving like NSW with the dry air masses being wrung dry by topography. That region has been tracking near record dry or record dry for a few years :(

Cold wintery one here in FC with a max of 9.0C. Showers were pretty hit and miss so just 2.4mm added to the total. Pretty disappointing polar outbreak this one with temperatures which are probably a once every couple of years, but the rain totals all pretty ho hum. Does feel like the IODis squeezing the moisture out of these systems.

Looks like a few more cool and showery days to come, but most spots only getting dribbles.

Max of 12c today and feeling quite cold with the wind. Not at all like summer, but I’m sure hot weather won’t be too far away so I’m enjoying the cool while it lasts! Only 0.4mm today, which is about what I was expecting given the setup. Actually looks rather dry for the week ahead now.

We are still tracking below average for the year and I expect we’ll finish that way by the end of the month, mainly the result of the flash drought earlier this year from January to April. We’re currently sitting at just over 600mm for the year. I am actually thankful it’s not worse given the strong positive IOD and the otherwise parched conditions over most of Australia. We’ve been somewhat lucky in southern Victoria - hoping next year brings a full recovery.

Drizzly night in the Nongs with another mm. Today looks cool, cloudy, windy and spitty. Will add up near the coast and hills, but most others will see spots at best.

Remarkable snow photos in the alps. Would guess the falls which look to have peaked around 20cm would be a once every couple of years event, though this ones a bit odd as I’ve tended to find its often Baw Baw which picks up the bigger out of season snowfalls, whereas this ones delivered the goods across them all. Even the lower spots such a Buffalo, Selwyn and Dinner Plain have a solid cover.

Few photos from the web which capture it well.

Bit of contrast with Queensland and WA where a heatwave the likes of which hasn’t occurred for about 20-30 years is unfolding. OZ is on track for a hot December which just shows how odd this weather is locally :D

Managed to split all the showers today so didn't struggle the scorer :( Tis a quite dry airmass the moment you get away from the coast which is really squeezing the rainfall. Max of 16C, so still chilly for summer. The dry flow is then causing issue for the NSW fires :(

BTW looks like Thredbo's -1.0C max yesterday is a new December record for OZ breaking the "old" record of -0.8C at Mt Buller on 25 December 2006. It's also the first sub-zero max recorded in NSW. The stations (AWSs) in the alps are all quite new (typically ~10-25 years of data so they miss what would be clearly colder days in the past), but still highlights this one has been pretty remarkable.

Squeezed out 0.4mm of mizzle and fog this morning. Turned into a nice arvo with a cool wind and warm sunshine. Meanwhile the east coast burns :( Just shocking weather up there.

16mm for the whole event mostly Fri to Mon.

Winter pattern will just not end with another burst of cold mid next week with days of SW flow afterwards, pattern might not change till Jan at this rate just crazy.

So over the cold and wind, while heat in WA QLD NT is near or record heat but looks to be no end there either just a crazy crazy pattern we have atm.

Looks like early Oct not Dec around the country so cloudless so Dry

The drought rolls with many towns having no tap water or tankk water.

Happy for it to not rain here for 3 months if inland areas can get flooded.

Drought Fires and Wlys for another 2 weeks at least

Another cool cloudy morning in the Nongs with spits but nothing in the gauge. Looks like this last bit of the event will mainly stay on the coast.

Tis interesting how peoples perception is not always accurate because we've had so many warm months/years recently. The past 3 months have actually been warmer than average for most of us. We've had cool spells, but in aggregate the warm ones have more than made up for them.

One thing that has been unusual is the wind. November was record wind for many sites in Vic, though the records are generally a decade or two long, so not clear how it compares to the longer past.
