Cold max of 13.3C here today. Fog cleared about noon, and we saw the sun for the first time in three and a bit days :? The three days of continuous fog is something I haven’t seen here in January since the early 2000s. Can happen in December but very rare in January. In that time we had more than 40mm of drizzle or light rain.

Flipping back to summer now. Hopefully some storms in the mix next week.

Crazy contrast across the state. Falls of 50-150mm across much of the south and west, particularly if you were on a hill or near the coast, but less than 5mm for others. Our place at Walkerville got over 100mm, while Ferny Creek just less than 65mm.

It’s been quite classical La Niña for some of us, but more like El Niño for others. Hoping something statewide arrives.

Btw crazy storms in Brisbane atm.

Felt like summer is late and impressive that Southlery wind is colder.

Warm to Hot coming very short days to next cool change.

The mix is La Nina and Solar Cycle .

Whilst our weather is boring, quite interesting weather around the world of late... Alaska just recorded their lowest ever air pressure at 924hpa, and one day earlier the world record for the HIGHEST air pressure (sea level equivalent) anywhere in the world was recorded over Mongolia at 1094hpa during some record cold weather in the area. (Both air pressure observations obviously yet to be verified). The high pressure reading was accompanied by a chilly -45.5C.

Northern Hemisphere in for a rough ride it seems with the polar vortex splitting which could result in very cold weather on the northern parts of the main continents, but very mild weather in the Arctic.

Subtropical, low pressure systems are keeping the weather quite tame at the moment (how ironic), as they relegate the high pressure ridge low enough to thawt any linkages between cold fronts and the subtropical troughs that are moving around the interior. A front comes close early next week, but looks to mainly scrape Tassie at this stage. Still, there's a tremendous amount of moisture swirling around the top end and SE asia just waiting for a trigger to wring it out. This remains one of those years where Vic remains on a flood alert merely because of the conditions up north.

Thursday brought a lifting of the fog and stunning clear and warm conditions. Now we go into a warm to hot spell. Will be a couple of weak changes near the coast.

Here’s a photo looking toward Mt Dandenenong. As green as it gets for mid summer :D

Guess we kinda need a new thread but looks pretty boring for a while.

Not much green grass left around here now. More dust than anything in our desert. Only 36mm of rain in the past 8 weeks.

Not seeing much of anything in the models for the next 10 days. If you like settled weather for whatever reason, soak it up:)

It's been an absolute glorious day down here on the Island, although that south easterly wind has really picked up during the afternoon.
We have had a really good mix weather-wise during the past few weeks. Garden looking a treat thanks to all that rain. :D

Unfortunately it's back to the western hellhole tomorrow. Not particularly looking forward to it with a 37℃ forecast on Monday for the return to work. :(
