Low Pressure: 23rd - 27th June 2021

Post by Harley34 »

Charts suggesting a complex low developing and occluding. it has the potential to deliver big falls for most of the state. winds are likely to be high.
hopefully it will be good but wary of damage. specifics i cant say personally but maybe moderate rain to high spot falls

Looks good for follow-up rain in northern areas. Very windy for SA but looks to fade as it comes across Vic a bit.

Not a particularly cold system but should be cold enough for snow in the alps, at least at higher elevations.

Makes me wonder whether on/off signs of a double La Nina later this year could eventuate.

Maybe. Although a negative IOD is certainly in the picture at present.

We're looking at 20-30mm this week. Very useful rains if we get that.

Another decent frost this morning. Two in a row.

Bust times atm, cleaning up from the storms a week back

Progs looking very good for northern parts. Days of showers, drizzle and rain pilling up on the northern slopes. Some snow in the alps, but quite a mild system. Progs showing north of 100mm in spots up north. In the south will be heavily rainshadowed. Blustery winds, particular in the north and west. Tis feeling like a negative IOD year with these repeated low.

Nice frost in patched here yesterday to mark the solstice. Here’s a shot of the sunrise just before 8am look northeast from near our place :D Stunning morning.

Negative IOD is what we want here; La Nina has only patchy benefit for us, whereas we've never had below average rainfall in a - IOD year.

That's one kick-a$$ northwest cloudband. Quite normal and quite welcome in June. Now all we need is a strong cold front to flush out these annoying mild days and we're all set for a proper winter!

Winds started to pick up here..
school holidays about to start,
Feel for all the young ones who were impacted on 9th 10
2 weeks won’t be enough to forget that’s for sure.

Our Son witnessed “howling wind” Flinders Island when young,
So glad it wasn’t the day flying in our out..

Had the tree sitting on power pole end of street cleaned up yesterday,
Very grateful prior to this weather event.
Was a Practice run on the new Geni plug-in
Although 15amp extension leads not easy to find around the foothills.
All set for just in case now..

Looks like a good system for the north. South will be rainshadowed. I’ve tended to find the more westerly the stronger the rainshadow, and this one is more north to northeastly so might not be so strong in the west and central :?: It goes swly to wstly for the weekend with a couple of colder showery days.

Windy near the divide, though thankfully the low is weakening so we don’t get the winds they had back in WA. Lots of rain on the northern slopes, which should peak above 100mm going by the progs in the northeast.

Pretty mild system so snow initially just about the peaks, but lowering later. Turning into a pretty mixed start to the snow season atm, with little in southern parts but pretty good further north in NSW.

A couple of mm thus far. Winds are picking up from the North and the rainband is coming in from the Mallee. Perhaps 10mm in it. All very repetitive week-in, week-out.

Not that cold though. The AAO really needs to switch from +ve to -ve for decent snow to happen on the Alps.

A spitty 3mm so far here in the lee of the Divide - we're right where the radar rain breaks down. As usual in these setups, a lot more rain is falling just a few kilometres to our north.

But that's fine - we're approaching 90mm mtd on the back of an already wet year. Not sure a deluge would be a good thing right now...

A lot windier here last night than forecast - we had gusts over 50km/h which woke me up several times.

Have had a couple of brief showers here, but not enough to register in the gauge. The rain shadow has really kicked in, as expected, with steady rain north of about Gisborne.
