Heavy rain for eastern Vic 8-11 December

Post by Gordon »

Time for a new thread with models lining up for good rain starting today for much of eastern Vic, grading to heavy for the far east.

We might get a bit more too, though not in eastern Vic's league :).

Yep rain showers around already. Noteworthy chill in the air, despite showers and breeze got down to 5.2 here, after a period of sun its only 9 now.

Had 2.8mm till 11am yesterday from the night prior heavy shower mostly and 1.3mm till 9am today but one solid shower since then.

One of the biggest local forecasts I have seen - eg, East Gipp/ORBOST Huge rain event if it comes off.
Expect dozens of road closures, land slips, P/H/way probably closed.

15.2mm here since midnight and 22.6mm for the past two days. As others noted, it was very chilly this morning for the time of year with around 6c and heavy showers.

Showers are currently sweeping up through parts of west central and the eastern suburbs. Currently dry and partly cloudy here, but expecting some showers later.

Melbourne should see some rain tonight. 20mm in and around the east wouldn't surprise me.

It's blowing a 35kt gale from the Southeast this morning. What month is it? No rain at all as usual.

Looks quite toasty early next week...

A further 7.6mm today. Rained and off all day with a mixture of drizzle and a few heavier showers, which has mostly eased now. Might get a little more drizzle overnight but otherwise heading into a drier period.

MTD is already 78.5mm.

It is horribly windy here tonight. Is anyone else copping it?
Pouring rain as well. I've got well over 30mm in the gauge since Sunday.
The cold is starting to grate as well.
3.7 to 7.8 yesterday and
5.1 to 8.2 today.
Daylight temp didnt vary by more than one degree today.
It feels like winter.

A little windy here tonight but not too bad. Surprised to hear it’s really windy there - must be the elevation in this case. Or maybe the funnel effect with SE winds that Mike has spoken about up that way? We had a max here today of 12.2c, which is also not too far off winter temps. It all changes next week!

Persistent heavy drizzle set in here on Wed night and continued through to last evening, we tallied a handy 31mm from it to take us to 42mm for this month so far.

Just a cool overcast day here today with light easterly. The baro here never varied off 1014-1015 hPa for this event/past 4 days.

Present situation:
Image

A weak cutoff low. We might get a bit of drizzle tonight, but that's it for this event I feel for Nth Central Gippsland.

Royal Maffra is saturated, so the chance of getting through summer without irrigating fairways is still a plausible possibility, for the first time ever. Passing flow ex Lake Glenmaggie is coursing through the town midway between minor and moderate flood level at present.

Another 2mm from easterly drizzle this morning took us to 33mm for this event. Clouds cleared this arvo, for a sunny arvo with steady easterly breeze.
