Not a bad gain at Spencers Creek this week; now 122.3cm, which is a 77.8cm increase in 6 days and abruptly puts snow depth well ahead of last year.

Nice pic Crikey!

Well spotted Gordon with Spencer creek. Huge jump! Fascinating to observe if it can hit 2 metres again this year. That would be 3 years in a row, which has only been done once since records began in 1954 (years 1990, 1991 & 1992)...correct me if I'm wrong.

A very promising snow bearing event on the cards, according to ACC g.
Firstly a very strong low centred very close to SW VIC and west Tasmania on wednesday the 7th and Thursday the 8th August. 2019.
ACC g has the low between 980hPa on wednesday and 972 on the thursday.
It is a moisture laden low forecast to give wide areas of precip' to SE OZ.
On the western flank a strong 1035hPa high .
This couplet should provide an excellent motor for this event. (mslp gradient 55hPa)
The colder air starts to arrive late wednesday over the alps and continues on until friday morning.
Coinciding with varying strengths of precip'
That gives the potential of 36 hrs of natural snow . :D
Thickness ranges from 544 down to 536 for this event.
I haven't looked at the alpine forecast for this event but surely it would be good.

Saturday 10th and sunday the 11th August

ACCG has 532 thickness over large areas of East NSW,right up to the NSW/QLD border .
Precip' signal intermittent during this time but better on sunday.
There ia a good 'donk in the engine' sending this old pool northwards with a mslp deviation of 52mhPa between an intense low in the Tasman and incoming high from the west.
Snow a possibilty in alps, canberra region, blue mountains, highlands, granite belt.

Incredible trend and equals the record for years in a row over the historical mean of 198cm. The first and last time there was 3 years in a row was 1990, 1991 & 1992. This will most likely put the decade mean level peak above 00's, 90's, 70's and go close to knocking off the 80's if it can keep going.

Some impressive low level NSW snow this week too https://www.ski.com.au/xf/threads/augus ... 34/page-19; love the Sat pics & aerial 'snow near Tamworth' pic from Tuesday. That's been on the ground for a few days.

And the Tumut snowfall was pretty amazing; sub 300m: ttps://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-08-10/tumut-sn ... 1/11402184

'JS'..1991 was pinatuba eruption .
Makes you wonder if current volcanic activity across the globe these past few years has contributed to some better snow yields.

AAO still neg atm and has been since first week of July 2019
............
MORE?
Here is a snap showing the potential for monday 19th August 2019,10am at peak of cold pool.
I spy thickness down to 524 near Canberra, Perisher, Blue mountains, Oberon area
Broad band of 532 thickness across VIC and eastern NSW.
The cold pool moving away by tuesday but could be an impressive 24hr event for NSW.?
Only problem is that the main moisture band is in front of the cold pool but lots of time for that forecast to shift.

This week's reading is in for Spencers Creek: 222.4cm - a 20cm gain and an almost identical reading to the same day last year!

Deep Creek is slightly down at 103.2cm. No update yet for Three Mile Dam.

As of today's reading, that now puts the 2010 to 2019 decade average peak at 193cm, which I now think (not 100%) just pips the 1980's and very close to the 1950's. Only the 50's and 60's had greater peaks in recorded history. The return of the snow dumps, great to see :)

The 70 year climatology suggests next year will see a drop. Anything over 2m though, will set a new record of 4 consecutive years over 2m.

New reading yesterday of 228.8cm at Spencers Creek; more than last year's peak - and later.

Deep Creek down a tad at 94.6cm, although unfortunately this reading was taken on 28/8, so it would have missed the Wednesday/ Thursday snowfall top-up which Spencers Ck got.
