Would have put heaps on Adelaide to beat Melbourne today. Already its been up to 39.9c in Adelaide and Melbourne so far has managed 38.0c. Dont think Melbourne will get much more than that 38c.
And that winner is people who know a thing or two about the weather!
There is a lot less chance involved in forecasting a maximum temperature than tipping the winner of a horse race. Meteorologists and amateur weather enthusiasts like we have on this forum could get very rich betting on weather. Particularly when you consider most people know very little about the weather and climate and the odds are set by the punters. Hence the ridiculous odds quoted placing Melbourne favourite to get a higher temp than Adelaide. Shows just how many weather ignorant people there are in the world who also happen to be compulsive gamblers.

Most suburbs didn't get over 39C. Melbourne CBD looks like one of the hotter places in the state today, this can often happen in NW winds in summer I find. Eastern and northern suburbs got to 37C in the end. Still, $2.10 odds for Adelaide to have a hotter max than Melbourne are absolutely ridiculous. It would almost have been worth putting $1000 on that.
