Just cant a trick with this system. less than half a mm since 9am.
Melbourne water Altona reporting 48 mm's since 9am.
2 inches in no time. Saw the streets didn't cope too well in Altona
Wow, incredible rain in the city. I’m glad I’m not driving down there, but feel sorry for all the drivers and train passengers travelling in and out of the city.
Jasmine, I’ve been watching the radar on and off all day and noticed the showers just scraping to the south of Kyneton. Happens to us every so often too, usually scraping just to our north - annoying because it’s so close!
Good that there’s still some juice left in it though.
This is totally nuts at the jet stream level. Upper cyclone is now a hybrid cut off jet, interacting with the subtropical jet. It is super charging the cells coming in from the east. https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/w ... 33.81,1811

What cells?
Sorry Jasmine, just mucking around as it's boring down here.
Just landed in Sydney.
Had a sensational view from the air. Pity I had to leave Melbourne while this was all going on. Great stuff!
Hope everyone is staying safe.
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.
Our heaviest rain of the sequence here with 25mm and climbing. Nearby plenty of 40mm plus totals & lots of minor flooding. Event totals hereabouts now 50-70mm. Lots of minor flooding and some nasty car accidents .
29mm here today, taking us up to 57mm for the event. Rather glad we haven’t been hit by the most intense cells - seems to be quite a bit of damage around. We’ve had plenty of heavy showers but nothing too extreme.

Yes, it's getting to that 'Be careful what you wish for' stage.

Well I sure wish for it. Been a plain old day. Was hoping for a top up, but never really happened. 38mm event total. Not quite the 100mm I was hoping for, but great for December.
Just sitting here wishing a rogue cell will drag the convergence south. Most the day has been running 10-20km to our north. 7.4mm for the day and 37mm for the event. Still need 30mm to average for December so happy to have more
Saturday and Sunday looking unsettled and tending to think it could turn to areas of patchy rain on Sunday as the slow drifts into Bass Strait.
Another low coming up for the week ahead, but this one’s a heat low straight out of the Desert so plushy high based storms. Could well get to 40C in the north which will be wierd with all that water lying
