That storm east of Macedon and west of Wallan looks severe. Doppler indicating strong winds (and maybe large hail)!

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:20 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Bannockburn, KooWeeRup and the area northeast of Sunbury.

These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast.

They are forecast to affect Geelong City, Greensborough and Ringwood by 4:50 pm and Craigieburn, Pakenham, Preston and Rosebud by 5:20 pm.
Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.

Starting to pop nicely, rumbling away. North westerly attack of microbursts with upper winds at 700 hPa of 50 to 60 knots supporting their development. These babies can be quite dangerous, I've seen this type of high based cell peel a mature gum tree like a banana.

The cell near Wallan has some amazing structure and looks very nasty. There were some lowerings along the rain-free base on the southern edge, and it has a very turbulent-looking base.

Definitely! Radar indicating plenty of new cells with black cores developing or existing storms able to reach that severity. Should be an interesting afternoon and evening, hopefully not too much damage. Winds also will be an issue.

The cell south/southwest of Yan Yean still looks very impressive.

Managed to hear one bit of thunder so far with the cell north of Oakleigh.

sucking up a lot of dust as the the clouds have turned red.

Hammered NW of Bendigo. Rain torrential at times, lots of lightning, dust storms in the mix and trees down on highway between Serpentine and Kerang. Getting hit again now though not quite as aggressively.
No power up here either. Very muggy.

Just sat under that one for 10 minutes in essendon and it is a DUMPER!!!! I reckon we got a quickfire 30mm, flooding everywhere. Could see some very big totals if storms begin to train along the trough as it looks like this is what may be occurring.

Visibility dropped to under 100 meters in the CBD with that cell that just went through, and it was literally raining sideways.

That was a short but quite intense storm, very heavy rain and some strong wind gust too.
