Outflow propagating through the bay now towards the city!!!! Expecting this to be a big arvo for metro now. Could be some damage around for sure in the next 6 hours.

Is it just me, or is the bay killing it a bit

Steering is weak so the complex boundaries are going to drive activity now. Areas north of the bay should see rapid development very soon.

Looks to me like it's building up as it crosses the bay then easing right back as it comes onto land on the other side.

Would love to be bayside right now, those cells look amazing on the radar. Also looks as black as a dogs guts looking out my south facing window here at work.

Can someone explain why these massive black hail cores are dissipating as the storms come in off the bay? And will they eventually keep coming and wreak havoc over the SE suburbs at some point or not? Fascinating to watch them build and disappear on the radar.

Earlier view toward metro below, bubbling much closer to home now but still bright sunshine.

The storms are pulsey, rising up to full potential and quickly decaying afterwards. Probably not enough shear movement to sustain them long term. If you want a direct hit it needs to form very close to your location.

Looks like I'm going to miss out again. They always seem to die just as they're leaving the bay, only to then reform once out towards narre.

Just very high-based cells with rain if you happen to be right under a very small downdraft. Very 'meh'.
A few active cells in the clear air out West, but even they're looking rather mediocre.

I've had such a fun afternoon on the Bellarine Peninsula. Driving around following the downpours. Went from 33c to 16c when the first cell went over. Absolutely chaotic on the road when under the black on radar. Couldn't see anything. Hail about 2cms at one stage in Portarlington. They have a nasty bite when being hit by them lol.
Now just constant rumbles as they drift over the bay towards Melbourne.
My perfect start to summer

Plenty of rain out there, unfortunately it is just all falling into the bay.

Storms in the middle part of the state being challenged by a dry westerly change as trough/dry line moves. Well I think.
