Warm and humid with showers and storms: Late December to early January

Laid low by an oversized kidney stone. That wasn’t on my 2023 bucket lost Gotta say that one was a 20 out of 10 for pain. Liking a thumb hit by a hammer but went for hours.

Efficient hospital system. Already operated and about to be discharged from hospital. Couple of days of rest.

Complete dud on that system for southern Tasmania. Trough too soon. Cracking storms develop about 50km north and east, but timing on change was wrong Was always a bit suspicious of models holding convection back til after the change, but guess you look at hope they are onto something.

Pretty dull mid summer weather coming up. Not particularly hot. Chance of the odd shower but generally speaking the subtropical ridge is effectively separating us from the weather to the south and weather to the north.

That's a shocker hillybilly! Thank goodness the Tas health system looked after you. Had a couple of emergency dept. horror stories from family and friends over Christmas/ New Year back here in Vic.

Meanwhile today's weather has been much less exciting after yesterday's big storm. Cool, drizzly and in the low teens.

Sorry to hear about the Kidney stones hillybilly. They are nasty things. Remember the pain the old man went through years ago when he had them. Wishing you a speedy recovery mate.

Briefly back to slightly wintry conditions down here on the island today with some light brief showers pushing through.

Things should rapidly clear up by Friday for another warm weekend, just in time for my return to the western desert.

Seems like we used to get them mainly with cold fronts and even then only once every couple of years.
Feels like summer has shiftes to more of a Feb-Apr thing now

Definitely felt wintry yesterday. We had a brief max of 14.8c but most of the day was around 12c with a very gusty southerly. That southerly is still blowing hard today, not quite as strong as yesterday, but enough to make it pretty unpleasant outside. It looks like this pattern of fairly vigorous southerlies and easterlies will be with us for a fair while yet.

We're also on track for our first dry month in quite a while. We had 4.8mm from drizzle overnight, but there's very little else on the horizon. Hopefully something decent turns up before the month's end.

Weather is pretty dull here atm. Guess good couch weather when you are post op.

Struggling to see a dynamic set up in the next ten days. Dominated by an upper ridge. Will make for quite a long lived heatwave for southern Australia.

Probably needs a new thread. Some dangerous temps possible in about 7-8 days time in Western and Northern Vic.
