Weak trough with some showers and storms: Feb 9-12

Post by hillybilly »

Bit of an in between system that might locally surprise. Main action looks to be over NSW and the Tasman Sea, but will spill into eastern Victoria and parts of Tasmania. Hopefully we get a bit ahead of a hot end to next week :?

Rainy morning here in southeast TAS, though mostly light falls so far. Was always going to be more of a fish system this one with the best falls near the east Australian current off the coast.

Showers should develop over Vic this arvo, mainly near the ranges. Doubt the plains will see much. Some rumbles possible.

Saturday and Sunday broadly similar.

Good to see Tassie getting a bit of rain. We had about an inch in the highlands when I was there last week.

Amazed to see a sprinkle here this morning from an insignificant cloud - literally just a sprinkle, but amazing nonetheless.

Got the sun, but not the temperature here - 21C now which is as warm as it's been. Don't think 28C is happening.

Funny watching the app on my phone trying to cope, says it's 26C here when the warmest weather station within the district is 23C! BOM app is doing better with 22C.

Well just after saying that there was no chance of the temperature getting anywhere near 29c in
Ballarat today the sun came out and the Max at Ballarat was 27.0c so not too far off. :o
I recorded a Max of of 26.9c at my place here in Sebastopol.
Heatwave conditions late next week.

Wierd day down here with heavy drizzle and fog near sea level then a sunny humid afternoon. Really do like easterly weather down here. 🤗

Weak front here early tomorrow, with the odd shower. Similar for VIC.

Quite a heatwave building for next week, particularly for the mainland.

Cool and drizzly 11C here atm. A bit wetter than expected; sounds like we might need every drop!

Getting a bit dry and toasty here. Not very LaNina-esque...

Been the odd shower here, but not really adding up. Gardens slightly green - just getting enough dribbles to keep the grass greenish, but nothing effective. Quite a fizzer of a La Niña down here.

Substantial heat event now coming up for almost all of southern Australia. WA, SA, VIC and NSW will all see temperatures into the 40s and may well see numbers spike locally above 45C. VIC might fall just short. WA is going to see numerous days in the high 40s, and not far short of 50C going off EC.

TAS misses this one :D
