BoM social media ideas

Post by FuManchu »

Over here in the West we are looking to help BoM develop some ideas and concepts for social media strategies and tools.
For example, Twitter and how it is used. FB and how that is used. What info would you want. I guess behind it all is the every evolving need to get the info out first hand rather than via the enormous volumes of second hand sources.
Here is the link to our thread but I'd love it if you guys were able to contribute some ideas as well.
http://www.waweathergroup.com/forum/vie ... =28&t=1364" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Over all it is a great opportunity for us weather nuts to contribute to something we may very well use a great deal in the not so distant future if not already.

I'll submit the ideas and acknowledge them as those of Aus Weather Forum too ;)

Post yours here, it would be good if you did :)

I would like to see BOM organise web cams to view the weather in many locations across Australia.
One in their office so you can watch them at work
Also the number of weather stations in many country regions is very sparse and often off-line eg Nth central region. Vic. Need to engage the public with weather stations in all country towns and take schools students and the public for excursion. Open for the public to view in a public place .
Everything is behind closed doors. Open it up for public viewing and interest.
I would like to see a BOM employee on-line for weather chat 8 hrs per day So you can view a meteorologist talking to their clients ( the public re weather questions) Talk to a member from BOM. Now that would be great.
Certainly we need extreme severe weather warnings texted to our mobile phones
More documentaries on TV regarding the weather.in Australia. Home grown stuff..
A way to contact bOM if you have a concern with the weather. Tweeting to BOm to tell them of a pending storm or high winds etc.
