Happy New Year to all.
A paltry 23mm for December 2012, compared to the Viewbank 1999-2011 average of 73.1mm.
Total for the year is 663mm compared to the 1999-2012 average total of 690.5mm
As a comparison, the stats show the driest December was 20.8mm in 2002 so a dry end to the year indeed.

Thanks to you all for your 2012 figures, a pretty good year for most I think, albeit drying out as the year progressed, but then for a lot of us it needed to.

Werribee rainfall
Jan: 2.0 mm. This is just 5.4% of the long-term average and the lowest monthly total I've recorded.

Been recording rainfall aroound Melbourne ( Ferntree Gully , Kilsyth, Croydon, Cranbourne) Since 1982 and the 3.0mm's we had this month was the lowest I have ever recorded (prev Record 3.3mm's FTG in 1991) Previous Cranbourne record was 3.6mm's in 2009.
In fact this (3.0mm's) is all I have recorded in the last 42 days.
Hopefully that may change in a few hours from now.

7.5 mm for January - on the bright side, the daily totals were so few and so small I could add them in my head

Question without notice after reading Robbo's comment about yesterday's showers at Daylesford. Does everybody record their rainfall according to the standard meteorological day in Australia, ie, 9.00am to 9.00am?
That being the case, the monthly rainfall is the total rainfall from 9.00am on the last day of the previous month to 9.00am on the last day of the current month.
It makes it extremely difficult to compare towns if the reporting periods are not uniform.

Yes we try to ensure people use the official 9am cut-off for their readings, so 9am on January 31st was that month's total.

Terrible January here, I'm just forgetting about it and looking forward to February being much higher (already on 0.2mm, so there's an improvement)
Thanks again, Geoff

Jan 2000-2012 Average at Viewbank AWS is 43.8mm. Driest was 0.8 mm in 2009 so still "wetter" this year
