Time for another thread.. perhaps the “When will it rain again thread?” Maybe Monday, maybe next week. Happy for someone else to take the lead on the guess :(

Meanwhile, warm locally hot today. The incoming cloud form the TC and tropical depression has been squished by the upper level southwesterly flow.

Avalon on 32c this late in April. Revolting. (I think that'll be a late season record, although notably there was a 31.5c on 20/4/2010, and 31.8c at Laverton on 26/4/1962).

And a bad bushfire near Ballarat:

00Z GFS has faded away to no rainfall in the coming week. Pathetic.

Our 48 month rainfall total at the end of this month is going to look diabolical (~712 mm). Ran the numbers and only these May-Apr totals over a 2 year period were worse:
2008 - equal with 712 mm
2003 - worst ever with just 596 mm. Just goes to show how bad the Millenium drought was.
1945 - 649 mm
1915 - 702 mm
1882 - 708 mm

For context, the highest ever was 2011 with 1831 mm!

Lots of late season records. Kinda sick of writing about them as we just break so many nowadays :( Will be more on the weekends.

Progs showing some prospects, but not great. GFSV3, CMC and ACCESS all have light to moderate falls in the next week (locally 10-15mm). EC not quite so good, but produces increasing showers second half of next week. Might get a bit, but we are so far behind hard to get excited (and models keep downgrading). Up here in Ferny Creek April should deliver 20-30mm every week.

28.3c here today and still 23c. Crazy temperatures for mid-April and about 10c above average. We’re currently sitting on 2.8mm for the month with seemingly little prospect of further rain for the outlook period. It’s really dire in these parts and must be breaking records.

I feel we need a new thread for this April heatwave. Who would've thought we would be sleeping through temps above 20 degrees over night and 30 degree days this late in April?!

Shocker of a night up here. Min of 20C with a gusty northerly. That minimum is about 5C warmer than our maxima should be at this time.

Today strikes me as a pretty bad fire weather day for all those areas which haven't see rain (most of Vic) with a dying front squeezing the isobars :(

Really windy and warm here, a horrible day to be outdoors. The wind is stripping the autumn colour off the trees around here but still the tourists come to take their selfie in front of a wilting, suffering dust- draped tree. They dont seem to notice.
