Help me settle an argument!!!

Post by Lily »

OK, so on your breaks in between building Noah's Ark for the upcoming event/s (hey, I'm an optimist lol!), I need your help to settle a rather heated discussion had tonight over something. I'm going to attempt to do a poll for it (no idea if it will work), but need you to give your opinion on something of dire, dire importance!

To what end are you referring to when you speak of the "bottom" of a dim sim?

Is the bottom the smooth, rounded end or the pointy end where they've folded it in?

Simple question and yes, yes, not a big deal in the scheme of things, I know. But let me tell you, when there's only one dim sim left and your husband offers to go halves with you, then asks what end you want and you reply the "top" but you get handed the "bottom", well... My friends, let's just say, it was not pretty.

Help!

OH COME ON!!!! Nobody has an opinion on this? Can we not talk about the important things in life, such as dim sims? I mean, it's not like we're all strangers to each other and allllllll we have to do is politely discuss the weather! Oh.... wait a minute....

Thank you for your input, Moo, you're a very wise and sensible woman. Can I divorce my son too do you think? He was agreeing with his dad, yet my daughter was agreeing with me - complete gender divide at the dinner table last night, I tells 'ya!

Wes, you are SO letting the team down. My husband is celebrating and wants to meet you to shake your hand (he is also rather annoyingly punching the air going, "w00t! w00t! w00t!" and says there's another intelligent person in the world; himself, our son and Wes pmsl).

This is proving to be gender divide in it's most brutal form

BTW, your picture proves nothing Wes as it shows dimsims on their sides, revealing the TOP of the dim sim :P

Desperately searching images on net for perfect dim sim!! :D :P

Edit: As shown in this picture, the rounded part of the Dim Sim is at the top. The Pointy, squared off part of the Dim Sim is the bottom! :P

Image

You see, Wes, this is where your argument falls down. Upon googling for an image of dim sims in what I consider to be the correct position, I see that there are only images of dim sims on their side OR facing with the pointy end facing up. Why, you ask?

BECAUSE IT IS THE TOP OF THE DIM SIM!!!

No wonder you were having difficulty finding an image, there is not one showing the rounded end pointing upward.

So ner! I hereby declare dim sim wars on you, as well as my husband and son.

Purely from a cooking perspective the folds would have to be the top - you can't fill them facing down - it all drops out :-)

My local noodle shop makes the most amazing dimmys - his dad was the legendary dimmy maker at Sth Melb Market - and they are massive and almost hexagonal in shape, two is more than enough for a meal !

Bell, you have to vote! It's 80/20 in my favour, vote dammit, vote!

(And yes, you are quite correct :D )

This question is causing all sorts of angst and arguments now lol. I have friends posing the question on Facebook and other friends are texting their partners. It does seem to indeed be a gender divide. So far only a few men have said the pointy end is the top, the rest have said the round bit is. One friend stands out in the crowd and claims that there isn't a pointy end at all, that both ends are rounded :?

Still, nothing, but nothing makes up for the disappointment at being handed the rounded end when you've asked for the "top" and your taste buds were anxiously awaiting the crispy, crunchy pointy end. Such delicious anticipation, crushed :(

I have raised the hot topic with the good wife, and she agrees with you Lily (damn it!)
I will not give up. Over the next few days, I am going to quiz take away food outlets about what they think. 2 outlets in Box Hill and 2 in the CBD.

We shall fight on!! :P

As long as its a Chein Wah variety, I'll try both ends!

BTW my brother ate 16 of those driving between Sale and Maffra a few years ago, one in the gob, the next held out the window to cool "just right".

Wiki hasn't helped me out. :(
How about a balloon, rounded at the top, gets "filled" upside down, tied up and then turned upside down.
Very similar to a dim sim. :P
Am I winning some of you over??? :roffl:
