Re: VIC: Severe Wind Event - Spring Fronts. Sep 2-8 2012

There's also some great apps available for android and iphone if you have either. I have one my iPad that is brilliant - if you see / hear a plane, hold the device in the direction and it will tell you what plane it is! very nerdy, but oh so cool :)

Re: VIC: Severe Wind Event - Spring Fronts. Sep 2-8 2012

Still calm here, often is in the lead up to events like this - we're close to the top of a south facing hill often dont feel the full force of strong northerlies. Will be a different story in a few hours though... expecting tomorrow's commute to be a shocker. Take care everyone and stay tuned for al...

Re: Weather station positioning

Hey nafets, I had the same issue with my old station, thermo/hygro was in the wrong spot and consistently read about 1.5-2c above, more on days >30c. I got a new wireless system early this year and placed the sensor in the most shady spot in the garden - actually never gets direct sunlight, and is w...

Re: Shooting the Milky way

Same body here, but have the bog-standard twinnie kit. Bought a cheap fisheye adapter a while back, but does weird things and kills definition so rarely use it. Likewise need to spend some $$'s to get a decent lens.

Again, it's the key is time as well, wish I had more time to practice :)

Here's a current list of possible ISS viewings from Melbourne. Great for all you early-risers, not for me ;) Tuesday and Wednesday looks to be the best opportunities with long duration visibility - and just as dawn is breaking - should be a great chance for photos NASA Satellite Viewing Information ...

Re: Perseid Meteor Shower

I'm learning as I go along here... Watch the northern horizon Meso - from what I can gather the radiant sits just below horizon. Should be getting around 15 visible per hour at the peak.

I've given up - fogging up here now grrrr :(

Re: Perseid Meteor Shower

I just popped out to have a look and the skies have cleared - is a little hazy but can make out the southern cross. Amazed to see a single meteor almost directly up - very definite but not sure it was a Perseid - I was expecting a more northerly radiant?? Anyway, have set the camera up on repeated e...

Perseid Meteor Shower

Not holding out much hope for clear skies here with this dull SSE'ly flow at the moment, but perhaps a few hours NE of here might have a good chance. From spaceweather.com: THE PERSEID METEOR SHOWER IS UNDERWAY: Earth is entering a stream of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, source of the annual Perse...
